pin cushion mason jar

pin cushion mason jar

last night while i could not sleep, i was browsing through pinterest and came across a pin cushion mason jar.  and i thought to myself... i have to make this! not only is it cute, but it is very useful.

supplies you will need
mason jar (with 2 part lid)
hot glue gun
fabric
piece of card board
stuffing
scissors

in this photo, i have already cut the piece of cardboard into a circle the size of the cap.

now you want to cut your fabric into a circle a little bit bigger than the cap.  this will allow you to stuff the stuffing and have an extra lip to glue down.

turn your piece of fabric upside down, and place the stuffing on it with the card board on top

start with glueing on side at a time

now glue in each corner of the fabric to make it circular around the cardboard

after doing so, using a lot if hot glue, glue your cushion onto the mason jar lid.

now your ready to screw the cap on, and use away!

this is the sewing container and pin cushion all in one.  it would also make the perfect gift for someone who loves to sew.

My thoughts

So, I have definitely been slacking on posting more art and crafts tutorials... And I apologize for that... But there is GOOD news. I am currently working on bottle cap bar stools.  I figure this will be a perfect gift to give to my brother Dan (whom gave me the generous amount of bottle caps).

When I finish with the bar stools, you bet your butt I will be making myself a bottle cap table.

Don't you worry my fellow crafters, I will absolutely post step by step pictures with my own techniques.

I do want to thank my amazing boyfriend (hopefully one day my husband) for supporting my passion for crafts, he is my inspiration and I love him more than life itself.  You are my everything Derek.

Junk Jewelry Picture Frame

junk jewelry picture frame

apparently, i'm becoming a hot glue gun addict.  as i told yall in my earlier post, my brother gave me a generous handful of bottle caps.  along with that he also gave me a hot glue gun... which oddly (considering the amount of craft projects that consume me) i did not already have one.
i saw a blog recently about using old/junk jewelry to make a picture frame.  junk jewelry, old picture frame, and a hot glue gun... IM IN!

supplies
junk jewelry
picture frame
hot glue gun
scissors

here are some pieces of junk jewelry and an old picture frame that i had found

i cut the bracelets so the beads would fall off.  and i removed any extra chains or pieces of metal (all of which was used with scissors)

now, the fun part! use the hot glue gun to attach all of your charms

and there you have, a junk jewelry picture frame!

Bottle Cap Crafts

Bottle Cap Crafts

recently i came across quite a handful of bottle caps.  thanks to my brother, who happens to enjoy a variety of beer.

i am overly excited. knowing my passion for arts and crafts, he saved all of these bottle caps with me in mind.

after what seemed like endless hours of sorting through all of the bottle caps, we (my wonderful boyfriend and i) were finally done.  sorted and bagged!

but what should i make with them? so many ideas... so many plans...

Bottle Cap Picture Frame

so i decided i'd first make a picture frame

supplies:
hot glue gun
extra glue sticks
picture frame
bottle caps (mine took 20)
card board strips (you will cut these in to squares)
scissors

i used an old picture frame i found hidden away and chose 20 bottle caps.  depending on the size of your frame will determine how many bottle caps you will need.

i then cut the strips of card board into squares that will fit into the bottle cap.  this gives the underbelly of the bottle cap support when you glue it on to the frame, and it will also save you a lot of glue!  less glue, less dripping.

now i use the hot glue gun and glue each piece of card board to the inside of the bottle caps.

now, i will glue each bottle cap on.  you can choose any assortment of colors and drinks to customize your own.

and the finished product!

this is just the start... i have many more ideas to come...

Bottle Cap Magnets

next idea on the list... bottle cap magnets!

supplies:
hot glue gun
extra glue sticks
scissors
bottle caps
magnets (will be cut into circles the size of the bottle cap)
card board (will be cut into squares to fit inside the bottle cap)

you will need to cut card board into squares that will fit inside of the bottle cap.  then cut the magnet into a circle that is the size of the bottle cap.

use the glue gun to glue the piece of card board into the bottle cap.

now, glue the cut out magnet to the piece of card board

now, repeat each step to as many bottle caps you desire...

and voila!  you have cute, but very easy to make magnets!
